Andy in EW on his new single and writing his third album

By Madison Vain

Andy Grammer, the 32-year-old pop singer broke out big last year with “Honey, I’m Good” and “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah),” and now he’s back with a brand new single “Fresh Eyes.” Ahead of his Aug. 1 TODAY show performance, Grammer tells EW about his next album and why he’ll always support street performers.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: “Honey, I’m Good” was one of 2015’s biggest singles. Is there pressure to deliver an equally massive follow-up?

ANDY GRAMMER: There’s not a ton. I mean, there’s always a little bit of pressure because you want to do well, but it’s nowhere near as bad as the last album. Now I’m just having a blast writing.

Your new single “Fresh Eyes” will be on the album you’re in the process of writing. How’s it coming along?
It’s been nice the past six months or so to just be home and write. [My wife, Aijia, and I] just got this house, and it’s like baby shower central – all of our friends are throwing showers in our backyard. But now I’m ready to freak out again and run around the country and say, “I missed you!” to my fans and hopefully introduce some new music.

You started as a street performer in Santa Monica. Ever revisit your old spots?
Totally. I just did over the Fourth of July. I spent the day walking up and down the street.

How generous of a tipper are you to other buskers?
[Laughs] I made a deal with myself that no matter where I go, if I see a street performer, I’d tip them. It’s sweet to know that you can get started from the generosity of others.

You’re co-headlining a tour with Gavin DeGraw this fall. What’ll the vibe be like on the road?
I’ve toured with him a bunch. A lot of members of his band used to play in my band, so it’s like going out with brothers. We’re gonna have the best damn time ever!

The TODAY show is teaming up with EW for a backstage pass to the “Citi Concert Series onTODAY” with exclusive Q&A’s in the magazine and on EW.com. Catch Grammer on NBC Aug. 1.

Mix 104.1 Boston: Andy Grammer Freshens Our Ears With New Single, “Fresh Eyes”

By Tim Staskiewicz

It’s been a few months since we’ve heard from Andy Grammer, but the MixFest alum has been incredibly busy behind the scenes.

He made a huge splash last year with two of 2015’s biggest singles,Honey, I’m Good, and Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah).

Now, he’s set to return to the scene with a new album (his third), a new tour with Train and Gavin DeGraw, and a new single the he, himself describes as “super freakin’ awesome,” in a recent chat with fans.

Fresh Eyes, the first single off his yet-to-be-named third album, made its way to radio Friday (July 29th).

“It feels so good to share this song with you,” Grammer said about the single on Twitter.

Yesterday, Grammer took to his Facebook page to play a bit of Fresh Eyes for his fans, taking questions and comments, and asking people what he should name his blue guitar that much of his upcoming album was written on. He also took time to explain his absence.

“I’ve been home doing a lot of writing, and I feel like I haven’t quite been out there as much as I’d like to be for like the last 6 months,” Grammer told fans. “I am all pumped up. I feel very well rested, and I cannot wait to feel your energy on tour!”

Andy Grammer’s In Love with a Stranger – Sorta – in New Single, “Fresh Eyes”

On abcnewsradioonline.com

Next month, Andy Grammer will kick off a tour with Train, and then he’ll segue into a long co-headlining tour with Gavin DeGraw. Good thing he’ll have a brand new song to perform by then.

Andy released a sneak peek of the new single on Twitter: it’s called “Fresh Eyes” and it’s out on Friday.  The concept behind the song is how all the woman he loves has to do is change her look a bit, and suddenly, he falls in love with her all over again.

“Suddenly, I’m in love with a stranger/I can’t believe that she’s mine,” sings Andy. “Now all I see is you with fresh eyes, fresh eyes.”

Before he unveiled the title, Andy ran a little contest online asking fans to guess what the name of the single was.  He gave us the “F” and the “E” and everyone tried to fill in the blanks. Among his favorite guesses: “Frog Eggs” and “Fast Elks.”

As for whether or not the song is the first track from an upcoming album, Andy hasn’t said anything about that yet.
